2011 Missions Banquet
Blogs
Dear Immanuel Family:
Even with a very rainy morning, we had more than 90 men at the Men’s Breakfast. The food was terrific, as usual, under the watch care of Joe Hrubik. And there were many working with him to feed all who came. From the forecast, it appears this afternoon will be nicer with a bit of sunshine thrown in. So … I hope you are making plans to attend and praying for the Missions Banquet tonight. It begins at 5:30 pm. Our caterer is planning a great meal around his London Broil.
But of greater significance is the reason for this particular banquet. We call this weekend, “A Heritage of Faithfulness.” We will be acknowledging those who have served as missionaries in the past. There will be a video montage and time of recognition. I have heard that there will be as many as 26 former missionaries who have made the effort to come. Let’s show our love and appreciation in every way. If you don’t know some of them, introduce yourselves. Take the initiative and make them feel welcomed. We also have 5 members of the Mary Baker family who will be attending. Mary Baker was one of our missionaries who was martyred for her faith.

Serving Christ: Taking Up the Towel
Text: 1 Peter 4:8-11 10/9/11 AM
Seven centuries before Jesus’ birth … the prophet Isaiah had anticipated the coming of the Messiah … and repeatedly referred to Him as “the servant of the Lord” (cf. Isaiah 42-53).
In fulfillment of those promises, the apostle Paul captured the essence of the incarnation as the Son of God took on human flesh describing it as Jesus “taking the form of a servant” (Phil. 2:7).
Jesus Himself declared that “the Son of man came not to be served but to serve” (Mark 10:45).
Luke quotes Jesus as saying, “I am among you as one who serves” (Luke 22:27). Those words were spoken in the Upper Room. For Jesus’ heart of service was especially evident on the night before He was crucified.
Christmas at Immanuel
Blogs
Dear Immanuel and Friends:
As the Elders met last night, we discussed plans that the staff had proposed for our celebrations during the Christmas season. A number of new things will be part of calendar this year that will add to the joy of the season. We will be announcing these events after Missions Conference which is only a week and half away. (Don’t miss this conference with Pat Cate and Stan Toussaint!)
But there are two things that I will highlight now. First, of course, is the concert with Keith and Kristyn Getty, Joy – An Irish Christmas. The concert is on Wednesday, December 14, at 7:00 PM. If you have not yet ordered your tickets online or taken care of that at the church, please do so very soon to guarantee that you will be able to attend. It will be a great evening of singing familiar carols … and beautiful Irish melodies. Our seating is limited, and we are now approaching 300 tickets sold.
