Illness Guidelines
Immanuel Baptist Church Illness Guidelines for Nursery through 6th grades
Dear Parents,
Your children are precious to you and to us thus we want to help you keep them healthy. We are striving for the healthiest environment possible. During the past year, some of our babies and children have struggled with various childhood illnesses and persistent viruses. Please read and follow these reminders to help minimize the spread of illnesses to other children and teachers. These recommendations were taken from the Report of the Committee on Control of Infectious Diseases of the American Academy of Pediatrics. For the protection of your child and other children, any child who appears ill cannot be accepted in a preschool or children’s department. This decision will be made individually by each classroom teacher and if further confirmation is needed, by the Children’s Ministry Coordinator and/or a Registered Nurse.
Signs of illness you should watch for:
- Inflamed mouth or throat
- Fever of 100 or higher within the previous 24 hours (must be free of fever w/in theprevious 24 hours without the use of meds to return)
- Unusual fatigue
- Vomiting or diarrhea –symptom-free for 24 hours
- Any symptoms of the usual childhood diseases
- Common cold – free of all symptoms including: Coughing, Sneezing, runny nose w/ green or yellow matter or runny eyes.
- Sore throat
- Unexplained rash
- Any skin infection, pink eye or eye infection
Children who become ill during a church activity will be isolated and the parents will be contacted to pick-up the child immediately.
Teachers may not give medications.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as you observe these guidelines. A good rule of thumb is “when in doubt, keep your child out”. This simply means that you should ask yourself if you would want your child around a child who looked, acted or felt as yours does. If you have any questions, please contact the Beck Henry, the Children’s Ministry Coordinator at 355-8691.
