Worship Our God Faithfully, Joyfully, and Triumphantly!

It was evening.  All was still in the countryside as the shepherds bedded their flocks down for the night as was the routine in those fields of Bethlehem.  The stars sparkled and the air was crisp.  Around the fire huddled several rugged figures sharing stories and discussing plans for the next day.  It was life as usual.  But all of that was about to change.

Suddenly a bright light flashed before their eyes, a million times brighter than the flames of their camp, far brighter even than the Palestinian sun at midday.

And out of that explosion of brilliance appeared a creature that defied description or imagination.  So stunned and shaken were those seasoned shepherds that they cringed in terror.

Just then a reassuring voice eased their fears and announced the unthinkable that God Himself had entered time and history in the form of … a child!  This was incredible news.

At that moment, those humble shepherds became the audience of one of  the grandest performances on the stage of human history as an innumerable multitude of angelic beings filled the skies and blended their voices in majestic praise and perfect harmony singing gloriously of the Savior’s birth.

Hurrying from their encampment, these shepherds searched far and wide until they came upon that sacred spot where the Son of God lay.  With wonder and awe they worshipped that holy child – the God-man.  So filled … so thrilled were their hearts that they began to glorify and praise God for all they had witnessed.

Their exact words aren’t recorded in Scripture … but they probably weren’t much different in substance than this familiar song.

O come all ye faithful,

Joyful and triumphant

O come ye, O come ye

To Bethlehem

Come and behold Him

Born the King of angels.

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

Christ the Lord.

This wonderful carol reminds us of how we are to worship our God: Faithfully, Joyfully, and Triumphantly!  Will you celebrate this Christmas in that “spirit”?

Don’t forget to join us tonight for Carols, Cookies, and Cocoa (a special time for the Immanuel family and friends to enjoy singing favorite carols) and on Thursday night at 7:00 pm for our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service.  (A musical prelude begins at 6:30 PM.)  And from all of us on the staff, we wish you a very joyous Christmas!
