Annual Meeting
Written by Administrator Saturday, 14 January 2006 19:00
Each January Immanuel Baptist Church conducts its Annual Meeting as a means of looking back over the past year to count our blessings … and looking ahead to consider the cost and make our commitment to the Lord regarding our leaders and budget for the coming year. Staff members and departmental directors also submit reports recounting events and blessings from the previous year. (Special thanks goes to my secretary, Naomi Corcoran, for her diligent work under duress at this time of year!)A Faithful Witness

In Acts 12 we observe the young Jewish followers of Christ daring to make contact with pagan Gentiles in the city of Antioch some 300 miles north of Jerusalem. These families took the risk of speaking “to the Hellenists also, preaching the Lord Jesus” (v. 20). This was a “dangerous” move on the part of these believers who were already on the run because of growing persecution. Yet, they could not remain silent. They had “good news” to share. And we read that “the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord” (v. 21). What a wonderful new beginning! To Know God

Standing on the threshold of a new year we are inspired and challenged by the verse printed on the cover of our bulletin, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). The original intent of those words was that the nations should cease from their hostilities against God and His people. This response follows on the heels of another command given two verses earlier. “Come, and behold the works of the Lord” (Psalm 46:8). In other words, as the world sees and comprehends the power and sovereignty of God, it should be driven to stand in awe of Him and be impassioned in its desire to know Him. But should that be any less true for God’s people? Our goal as Christians should be to know God!Page 54 of 54
