The world is in a mess … and that’s because the hearts of people are corrupt. We look at the headlines and observe the trends of our culture and, as Christians, wonder when God will set all things right. When will the day of judgment come? In reading the opening lines of Psalm 50 … there is a sense that such a day has arrived.

How do you view the day of worship? What is your attitude as you gather with others on this day?

In preparing my Wednesday night message this past week I was studying Psalm 92. It has a fascinating heading – “A Song for the Sabbath.” As such, it is the only one of its kind in the entire collection of the Psalms. God places it there to inspire, encourage and teach us regarding the day of worship. For the Old Testament saints that was Sabbath or Saturday. For those of us in this era it is Sunday.

This week marks our nation’s 230th birthday. Though Christians are citizens of heaven, we are also blessed to call ourselves citizens of these United States. And we rightly celebrate and honor the country in which we live (cf. 1 Peter 2:12-17). The people who have modeled such love and devotion best have often been those who have served freedom’s cause in conflict. I came across this story written by John McCain as he remembered an incident from his Viet Nam experience.
