Did you see in the news this week that NASA has misplaced the original recording of one of its most significant moments in history … the lunar landing in 1969? The data and video transmissions are nowhere to be found. People have been searching for a year. Among the missing are the memorable words of Neil Armstrong, “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” But at least those of us who were living at that time will never forget that historic “step.”
Running the Race

Bryan Wilkerson, a pastor, shared his experience of running a marathon and finding himself on the verge of giving up.
“I once ran in the New York City Marathon. The first half of that race is a party. You’re swept along by 28,000 runners, crowds lining the streets, and people running in costumes. You’re touring the ethnic neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens. You feel like you could run forever. At mile 13, you cross over into Manhattan and start heading north, away from the finish line. Central Park is behind you, and you’re going in the wrong direction. The crowds are thinner now. The party’s over.

Life had been filled with “ups and downs” for Nicholas Zenns for some time. Like many of his peers, he went through the motions of life, but it held little meaning for him. On this particular night, he was on the job at a Taco Bell in San Diego, California. His responsibility that evening was to handle the orders for the drive-up window. Suddenly, he was startled by a scream. Turning around, he saw a very pregnant Deborah Anderson standing in front of him with a look of panic in her eyes. She had gone into labor, and the pain was intense.
Gems of Faith

As a pastor, I am called on to bring comfort and encouragement to families when they lose a loved one. But many times I find my own heart encouraged as I sift through things with the family or look through the Bible of the one who has gone home to be with the Lord and discover gems of faith.
