Other Resources To Defend The Hope That Is In You

Before the series Tough Questions … Honest Answers comes to an end, I need to catch up on some of the other resources I have used in my studies and preparation. Books on apologetics (for defending the faith and answering the questions of skeptics) continue to multiply. In previous weeks I have provided a bibliography for specific questions.

If you want to do more reading on the question – “If there is a God in heaven, why is there suffering on earth?” – consider one of these books:

  • If I Were God, I’d End All the Pain. John Dickson (Matthias Media, 2002)
  • The Message of Evil and Suffering. Peter Hicks (InterVarsity Press, 2006)
  • Skeptics Answered. D. James Kennedy (Multnomah, 1997)
  • A Grief Observed. C. S. Lewis (HarperCollins Publishers, 1961)
  • Where Was God? Erwin Lutzer (Tyndale House Publishers, 2006)
  • The Case for Faith. Lee Strobel (Zondervan, 2000)
  • Cries of the Heart. Ravi Zacharias (Word, 1998)

 

Regarding Jesus being the “only way to God,” you will find these to be excellent resources:

  • Mere Christianity. C. S. Lewis (HarperCollins, 2001 edition)
  • Why One Way? John MacArthur (Word Publishing, 2002)
  • Basic Christianity. John R. W. Stott (Eerdmans, 1958, 1971, 1999)
  • Why I Am a Christian. John R. W. Stott (InterVarsity Press, 2003)

 

Some of you may find reading difficult (though I promise you that every moment you spend reading is time and effort invested well). There is an alternative. A number of the books I have recommended are available on CD (or even MP3), such as:

Don’t forget the challenge Peter issues to those who believe in Christ. “In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15).
