Gratefully Yours

Pastor asked me if I wanted to use his column to express thanks to all who helped during these last days. Yes! - and here it is.First, I thank my Lord for His steadfast love and sufficient grace at all times - in the sunshine and when the storm rages. I thank Him that He led me to Richmond, then to Immanuel Baptist, then to the Cox residence where I found a wonderful, talented, mature, compassionate and pretty young lady. I courted her and she became my wife.
I thank Him that for 60 years - less 5 days, we have traveled the road of life together as we served our dear Lord. I thank Him for lessons learned during the last two years which were so difficult due to her deteriorating health. I am grateful for Hospice of Central Virginia and faithful nurses and aides that cared for Evelyn since March of 2003. I thank Him that at long last He called her to her heavenly home.
Thanks goes to Pastor for his kind counsel and help during this experience. I am most grateful to Sparky, Jim L., Frances G., Kathy P., Judy A., and sons Jonathan and Ken Jr. for helping in a beautiful Memorial Service. Also, to Jonathan Baker for video taping it, and Paul McCullough for getting the church facility ready.
The meal following the burial was furnished by the Joint-heirs and Fellowship S.S. classes. What a feast, tasty and ample, organized by Rebecca Larsen. Thanks to her and to attentive servers - Curtis and Brenda Grant, Liz Hunsucker, Stephanie Deppen, Tara Johnston and Joanne Traver.
Special thanks to Michelle Ravensbergen for the beautiful sketch of a hand pointing heavenward - “Gone Home!” What a comfort to know where our loved ones go at death.
Breakfast that day was provided by Gary and Janice Thomson. What a thoughtful thing with some 23 people to feed and get to church on time. Rebecca also planned “bag lunch snacks” to take with us on our ride to the Veterans Cemetery.
I also have to mention scores of cards, floral tributes of family members, and churches - Free Grace Baptist of Luray, Mt. Moriah Baptist of Powhatan, and First Baptist of Mentone, IN. And last, but certainly not least, all the kind words and hugs from so many of you in the “body of Christ.” What an outpouring of LOVE! THANKS!
Gratefully Yours, Ken Marken
