"Birthing Classes"

Life had been filled with “ups and downs” for Nicholas Zenns for some time. Like many of his peers, he went through the motions of life, but it held little meaning for him. On this particular night, he was on the job at a Taco Bell in San Diego, California. His responsibility that evening was to handle the orders for the drive-up window. Suddenly, he was startled by a scream. Turning around, he saw a very pregnant Deborah Anderson standing in front of him with a look of panic in her eyes. She had gone into labor, and the pain was intense.
Nicholas, a seventeen year old high-school student, pulled off his headset and called the paramedics. But this baby wasn’t about to wait. The teenager was compelled to take action. The mother went to the floor and gave a “push.” Nicholas later said, “The baby’s head just popped out into my hands.” Paramedics soon arrived and took over. Mom and baby were safely rushed to the hospital.
Washing up after the delivery, Nicholas said that he “sterilized [his] hands about a thousand times.” After that amazing experience he went on to finish his shift. The young man reported afterwards how the event had affected him. “Things have been pretty bad in my life lately, and then I got to do this. I’m really glad.” (San Diego Union-Tribune, 5/23/96).
Delivering a baby … that’s one way to add some excitement to your life. But few of us are doctors or will have such an opportunity to see a new life born … UNLESS!
Let me invite you to some “birthing” classes. Not the kind where you learn how to handle an actual physical birth, but where you are equipped to lead someone to a “new birth” in Christ.
Since 1999 Immanuel has offered training in one of the most effective means of reaching others with the gospel – Evangelism Explosion. By means of classroom instruction, homework, and on-the-job training, hundreds have been equipped to share their faith confidently, dynamically, and effectively.
The fall semester of this 13 week program begins on September 7 and runs through December 7, meeting once a week from 6 PM until 9 PM. Yes, it takes time and commitment, but the rewards are great. If your life has been dull and meaningless … get ready for a change. And I can’t wait to see your eyes bulge when you see your first “birth.”
See our Evangelism Explosion brochures for more information. Or if you have questions see Kume Goranson, John Luck, Sherry Miller, or Tom and Anita Zimmerman.
