Family Ministries
"Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain... Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord; and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth." (Psalm 127:1,3,4 )
We believe that in the book of Genesis, God established the family to be the basic unit of society (Genesis 2:18-23). As such, it can be shown that churches, communities and nations advance or decline relative to the strength or weakness of their families. Therefore, if we are going to make an impact on our society, the family formed by marriage, created and instituted by God, must be given high priority status within the Church of Jesus Christ.
It is no secret that the family is under attack today as society seeks to redefine its role and purpose from without, and as individual family members continue to be influenced by their society from within. In contrast, the purpose of our Family Ministry is to refocus our attention upon the biblical function and role of the family and each family member. In so doing, we hope to achieve five goals:
- To strengthen the husband/wife relationship
- To provide practical instruction that will help parents understand the principles of biblical parenting and how to apply it.
- To instill in parents the confidence that God's Word is sufficient for every challenge they will face.
- To raise up a generation of godly families having well-behaved, well-adjusted children to the glory of God.
- To train parents to disciple other parents in our church and in the community.
It is our hope and sincere desire that the Family Ministry of Immanuel Baptist Church will provide a biblical, practical and effective program that will be used of God to strengthen and enrich the families of our church and many other families in our community as well.
